The Monkey (2025) - My Honest Review
I just watched The Monkey (2025), and wow, this movie is a crazy mix of horror and comedy! Directed by Osgood Perkins and based on Stephen King’s short story, it takes a simple childhood toy and turns it into a nightmare. The story follows twin brothers Hal and Bill Shelburn (played by Theo James) who find an old toy monkey from their past. At first, it seems harmless, but soon, creepy and deadly things start happening. Years later, the brothers reunite when the cursed monkey comes back into their lives, and let’s just say… things get wild!
What I Loved
✅ Theo James nailed it! His performance as the twin brothers was solid, and you could really feel the tension between them. Also, Colin O’Brien, who plays Hal’s teenage son, added a lot of heart to the movie.
✅ Perfect mix of horror & dark humor. If you love movies that make you laugh and scream, this one’s got it all. The kills are insane, but there are also moments where you can’t help but chuckle.
✅ Visually stunning. Osgood Perkins knows how to make a film look creepy in the best way. The lighting, the eerie close-ups, and the monkey itself? Pure nightmare fuel!
What Didn’t Work for Me
❌ Some parts felt slow. The buildup is great, but there are a few moments where the movie drags, making you wish it would pick up the pace.
❌ Could’ve dived deeper into the characters. The brothers have an interesting backstory, but the film leans more into the horror-comedy aspect instead of exploring their emotions.
My Final Rating: (3.75/5)
If you love horror movies with a fun twist, The Monkey is definitely worth watching. It has the creepy cursed object vibes like Annabelle, but with a darkly funny side like Ready or Not. Some slow moments aside, it’s a great blend of scares, laughs, and a toy monkey you’ll never want in your house!
Would you dare watch it alone? Let me know what you think!
